The Wild Samoan Training Center has a storied history of training students from all over the world, including Ireland, Greece, Germany, South Africa, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Hawaii, The Netherlands, Italy, England, and more, but there seems to be a particular attraction to Hungarians! In the 1990s and early 2000s, Zoltan Bigg "The Hungarian Barbarian" was a major WXW superstar and product of the training center. A tall, impressive figure with amazing ring abilities, he went on to become a finalist in the first ever WWE Tough Enough auditions. Afa remembers his first impression of Zoltan in the ring. "For a big man, around 6'7 and 300 pounds of muscle, when I first saw him dive off the top rope onto the floor, it amazed me. I knew then that he could be a force to be reckoned with."

Norbert Szabo "Ron Corvus", also from Hungary, joined the training center soon after and still visits regularly. Just last week, Hungarian wrestler Janos Hauki "J-Hawk" came to the United States to visit the Wild Samoan Training Center!

The possibility of bringing WXW and the Wild Samoan Training Center to Hungary for a special wrestling clinic was discussed, and this wouldn't be the first time Afa the Wild Samoan would bring his school and federation to Europe. Previously, WXW had come to Austria and Italy! Afa has always enjoyed training students from overseas. With their limited time in the States, there's a passion and fire in them to make it all the way. Currently at the Wild Samoan Training Center is the WXW Heavyweight Champion "The Outback Silvaback" Mark Silva from Perth, Australia, and Jonathan Kenworthy from Wales.

WXW announcer Chris Russo signs WWE Contract

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WWE Hall of Famer Afa the Wild Samoan is proud to announce that WXW ring announcer and broadcaster Chris Russo has signed a contract with the WWE. "When Russo first came to me and told me he had the dream of getting into this great sport, I asked him why, since he was finishing up his MBA in Business. He told me that his true love was wrestling, and that he wanted to be trained by the best. I took him under my wing and gave him the opportunity."

Russo, a graduate of the Wild Samoan Training Center and proud recipient of the Usos Foundation Lia Maivia Scholarship, received the news after impressing at two separate tryouts for the WWE developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).  Since joining Afa's organization in late 2009, Russo gained the knowledge, experience and exposure which did not go unrecognized by the WWE.

Afa's motto has always been to help "train you, brain you, and make fame of you."  With the guidance, teaching, and support of Afa, Russo is able to live his dream of performing for the largest sports entertainment company in the world.  The Wild Samoan Training Center continues its tradition of grooming WWE superstars including Dave Batista, Gene Snitsky, and Billy Kidman.  In addition, Afa trained Mickey Rourke for his role in The Wrestler. Director Darren Aronofsky said "When we started to look for a trainer...all roads led to [Afa]."  Afa knows Russo will represent WXW proudly as he continues his journey through the WWE.  On behalf of the Wild Samoan Training Center and WXW, we wish Russo all the best.

Macho Man Randy Savage

My brother Sika and I were very sad to hear the news this morning that our longtime friend Randy Poffo a.k.a. Macho Man Randy Savage, passed away. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as well as the wrestling community. We sincerely pray that his wife gets through this tragedy the best way that she can.

We knew Randy and his family for many, many years, and one of his very first matches--if not his very first-- in Detroit, Michigan was in a tag team against my brother Sika and me. I remember Randy was fresh out of school, was a good baseball player, but decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a wrestler.

I enjoyed being in the WWE with him at the same time in the early 1990s, we shared so many good memories. He was one of the biggest and hottest stars the WWE ever produced. Rest in peace, my friend. I know that you are in good company in that great big wrestling ring in the sky. May your journey to Heaven be a peaceful one, and know that your legacy will live on forever.
